The Independent Film Fund

MiraBan provides funding for art-house, low-budget film projects, including feature-length movies and short films.

We are excited to offer up to £1,000 in funding for each film project. 

Here's what makes us unique in the world of film funding:

  • We champion auteur films. This means if you are the creative force behind your film, serving as the director, writer, and producer, you are eligible for this film fund.

  • Unlike many funding institutions, we offer funding at distribution stage.


Eligibility

Here are the guidelines for submissions to our film funding programme:

  1. We accept submissions worldwide for films intended to be produced in the UK.
  2. Submissions for films planned for co-productions with another country are welcome, provided that the allocated funds are spent within the UK, evidenced by invoices and receipts.
  3. We welcome submissions from individuals who serve as the director, writer, and producer of their film.

  4. All submitted materials must be in English.
  5. The final film can be filmed in any language as long as it includes English subtitles.
  6. We provide funding for various forms of fiction, including narrative short films, feature films, web series, and animation.
  7. Projects that have finished principal photography are eligible, at post-production, or distribution stage.
  8. To apply for funding towards distribution activities, provided that your film has been completed no more than 3 months from when you applied for the fund
  9. Screenplays submitted must adhere to professional formatting standards and should be no more than 20 pages in length.

  10. All submissions must include a detailed budget plan, outlining the specific costs you intend to cover with the Independent Film Fund.

1. What types of projects does the fund support?

  • We support independent fiction projects, including feature films, short films, and web series. The primary criterion is that the project is a work of fiction.

2. How much funding does the fund provide?

  • We offer funding of up to £1,000 per project. 

3. Who is eligible to apply for funding?

  • Any independent filmmaker with a fiction project, regardless of prior experience, is welcome to apply. We encourage emerging filmmakers and diverse voices to submit their projects.
  • We strongly encourage individuals who serve as the director, producer, and writer of their project to apply.

4. How does the selection process work?

  • Once applications are received, our panel of judges will review each project based on criteria such as originality, storytelling quality, feasibility, and potential impact. Shortlisted applicants may be contacted for further discussion or clarification.

5. What expenses can the funding cover?

  • The funding can be used for various production-related expenses, including but not limited to equipment rental, location fees, props, costumes, post-production editing, sound design.
  • It cannot be used for distribution expenses.

6. What happens if I am shortlisted?

  • If shortlisted, you must submit a detailed budget plan outlining the specific costs the Independent Film Fund will cover.The detailed budget plan is essential for the fund organisers to assess how the funds will be utilised in alignment with the project's needs and the fund's objectives.

7. What happens if I win?

  • Sign an agreement tailored for your specific project, detailing obligations, rights, and reporting requirements.
  • Provide regular progress reports and adhere to the budget and project plan.
  • Acknowledge the Independent Film Fund's support in all promotional materials and include the MiraBan logo in credits.
  • Complete production/postproduction/distribution within twelve months, unless an exception is granted.

8. Are there any rights or obligations associated with receiving funding?

  • The project is and remains entirely yours. We do not claim ownership or rights to your project. 
  • If you are a recipient of this funding, you will be required to credit "MiraBan" as associate production company in your project's credits

9. Can filmmakers submit multiple projects for funding?

  • Yes, filmmakers can submit multiple projects for consideration. However, each project should be submitted as a separate application with a separate submission fee, and each will be evaluated independently.

10. Is there a deadline for submitting applications?
